Wildlife Photographer & Philanthropist Steve Drogin Passes Away In India

La Jolla, California, and Kailua Kona, Hawaii.

Sadly, Steve died on April 15th while at a Retreat in a remote part of India. He died peacefully from a heart attack, with his wife Hiro at his side.

He will be missed by the entire Ocean Community. He was a philanthropist, a deep sea explorer & submarine owner, a passionate world traveler, an excellent wildlife photographer, a savy business man, a great family man and a caring husband to Hiro.

Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday April 29th, 5pm, at the Robert Paine Scripps Center for Oceanography at Scripps Institute in La Jolla.

In lieu of flowers, the Drogin family request a donation be made to his charities of choice.

-Parking/Shuttle Service will be available from the Birch Aquarium at Scripps
-Steve’s Memorial Service will take place in the Robert Paine Scripps Forum, which is at the southernmost part of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego

Directions to the Birch Aquarium at Scripps:

-From the north on Interstate 5:
--Exit La Jolla Village Drive, head WEST
--La Jolla Village Drive will become North Torrey Pines Road (approx. 1 mile)
--Turn LEFT on Expedition Way. Parking is to your left, at the bottom of the hill.
--There is ample parking in the parking lot. Additionally, handicapped parking spaces are available just north of the aquarium entrance.
--A shuttle service will transport people from the Birch Aquarium to the Scripps Seaside Forum.

-From the south on Interstate 5:
--Exit La Jolla Parkway. Stay to the RIGHT as La Jolla Parkway curves and becomes Torrey Pines Rd.
--Turn RIGHT onto La Jolla Shores Drive. (There is a large gas station at the intersection.) and continue up the hill for approximately 2.1 miles to Downwind Way.
--Turn RIGHT onto Downwind Way, stay to the right as the street will curve in that direction. Continue straight past the 4-way stop to the parking lot.
--There is ample parking in the parking lot. Additionally, handicapped parking spaces are available just north of the aquarium entrance.
--A shuttle service will transport people from the Birch Aquarium to the Scripps Seaside Forum.
