Stock photography
is pre-existing photography, as opposed to commissioned
or assignment photography which is created on demand
for a client. In most cases, the photographers themselves
incur all the cost of producing stock photography.
To recoup these expenses they license the rights for
use of the images. They can do this directly to clients
or through a stock photography agency. In general,
licensing pictures for a commercial use is a very complicated,
difficult and time-consuming process, therefore, many
professional photographers choose to have stock photography
agencies represent and market their pictures on their
behalf. Stock photography agencies take fair commissions
for their service from the sale of the pictures. Such
relationships allow photographers to concentrate on
what they are good at, photographing. The copyright,
or ownership, of the image remains with the photographer.
No. You only
purchase the specific rights agreed to and stated in
our invoices. The copyright always remains with the photographer.
It would be a good practice to always erase any downloaded
pictures from us after each use. For more information
about the copyright, go to the
U.S.
Copyright Office.

waived, a printed use of our pictures must be accompanied

upon the price negotiated. A waiver of this requirement
is usually only authorized for advertising uses, and
a higher fee is charged.
