Kevin Miller first started scuba
diving in Lombok, Indonesia, in 1994. His experiences to date
include being abandoned at sea by a tour operator, being marooned
on a tropical island for a night, and being confronted by angry
Truk Atoll natives for releasing their food source (baby sea
turtles) into the ocean. And while on his honeymoon, he nearly
lost his wife of 3 days in murky, bull shark infested waters
off the coast of Costa Rica. Despite these misadventures, or
because of them, he hopes to write the next chapter of his
life at the snorkel and dive spots of Big Island, Hawaii.
Kevin has a Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics from
Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia and a Bachelor
of Arts Degree in English Education with a minor in French
from the University of Connecticut. He speaks Japanese fluently,
has developed several websites, and enjoys working in Photoshop.
After 17 years, he is retired from teaching English at Shikoku
University and Tokushima University in Japan, and he has
now stumbled onto his dream job of researching marine life
and writing species fact sheets for SeaPics.com. When not
in front of his computer, he's underwater somewhere off the
Kona coast or exploring the Big Island with his wife, Shizuka,
and elementary school-aged daughter, Riko. His son, Jay,
teaches art in Manchester, New Hampshire. |
