Stock Photo Search
Tips |
 |
|
- Searches are NOT case
sensitive.
- Singular words usually
have more success than plurals.
- Do NOT use punctuation
(, .) or quotation marks (' ").
- Separate each word
with a space.
Enter words that apply to the type of images you're
seeking. Choose one of the following 6 criteria from
the adjacent pull-down menu to indicate how those words
are to be applied to the search. Choose wisely for
a successful search. Default is "ALL of these
words".
- ALL of these words is
like saying the results must have this AND that.
A search for tiger shark will have tiger
shark pictures and also include sand tiger shark
pictures, however, the search won't bring up pictures
of tigers (land mammal) or any other species of sharks.
The results must have this and that. Results showing
one or the other won't do, you want both.
- ANY of these words is
like saying the results can have one OR the other
of the words you entered. A search for tiger
shark will bring all pictures that contain either
the word tiger or shark. The search
will bring up all species of sharks and all species
of tiger including the land mammal such as Bengal
tigers. Results showing either one are fine.
- This EXACT PHRASE means
you want the exact words you've entered in that exact
order. Entering sand tiger shark will find
only sand tiger shark pictures, not tiger sharks
and not any other sharks.
- Words that BEGIN WITH seeks
images with descriptions that have words beginning
with the combination of letters you enter. Entering air finds
words like airplane, airport, airbrush and air-conditioner.
- Words that END WITH seeks
images with descriptions that have words ending with
the combination of letters you enter. Entering air finds
words like hair, stair, debonair and eclair.
- Words that CONTAIN seeks
images with descriptions that have words containing
the combination of letters you enter. Entering air finds
words like airplane, stair, stairway and millionaire.
This type of search allows you to enter any words,
partial words, or series of words. While providing
the most freedom, it's also a hit and miss system.
It checks both the image caption and the keywords for
those entries containing your exact combination of
words or letters. It may find images with words entered
in an image caption, but not entered into its keywords,
and vice versa.
This open vocabulary search may also produce inappropriate
matches. For example, a search for tiger shark will
locate both pictures of tiger shark species and sand
tiger shark species. In this case, you can type in "sand" in
the Without these words cell
to eliminate sand tiger shark pictures from your tiger
shark search.
Choose number of images
per page from the pull-down menu
to suit your connection speed or monitor size.
Limit your criteria if you do not want to be swamped
by thousands of pictures. Marine life is our specialty.
If you search general criteria like shark, dolphin,
or fish you may receive hundreds of pages
of results. You will get something more manageable
by searching tiger shark, bottlenose dolphin,
or flying fish. Be very specific. |
