The tiger shark, Galeocerdo cuvier, is ovoviviparous, hatching its eggs inside its body, and delivering live, fully developed, and completely independent pups. The pups grow inside their mother for around a year, and the litter can be from 10 to 82 young, each about 20-25 inches long. Tiger sharks mate approximately once every three years, usually between March and May in the northern oceans, and between November and January in the southern oceans. There is no definitive data on how long tiger sharks live, but scientists estimate they live to around 20 years old.
